אֶדְרְעָא, אֶדְרַא f. (=h.  אֶזְרוֹעַ, v. זְרוֹעַ) arm. Targ. Jer. XXXII, 21, a. fr. —Y. Ber. I, 4c top דאֶדְרְעֵיה the Tefillin of his arm. Koh. R. to XI, 2.—

Pl.  אֶדְרָעָתָא. Targ. Job XXII, 9אֶדְרָעִין. Gen. R. s. 65. —v. דְּרַע III.

אֲהוּרְמִין m. (Pers. Angra-Mainyus) Ahriman, the evil principle in the Zendavesta (Parsism); op. הורמיז Ormuzd. Shn. 39a. מפלגך לעילאי דהורמיז מפלגך לתתאי דאה Ar. (ed. a. Mss. incorr., v. Rabb. D. S. a. l.; Tosef. a. l. Better vers. Ms. F. מפלגן our half) thy upper half belongs to Ormuzd, thy lower half to Ahriman. Ib. א"כ היכי שביק אהורמין להורמיז למעבר מיא בארעא (ed. corr. acc.) if this be so, why does Ahriman allow Ormuzd to let the water pass (through the former's dominion) to the ground?

אַכְסַנְיָא f. (ξενία) 1) hospitality, lodging. Ex. R. s. 35 [] (Pes. 118b, corr.acc) they were a lodging place to my children in Egypt (they offered hospitality to &c.). —[] host. Pesik. R. s. 11; cmp. [].—B. Mets. 85a. [] scholarship likes to come around to its inn again (to be hereditary in the family) a.fr.—2) (=[]) hostess. B. Mets. 87a one must inquire [] after the health of his hostess. —3) quarter given to troops on march or to transient poor men; also the passing troop, or the passing poor; (individ.) beggar. Targ. *איסטמאה, Ms. M. [איסתמי מייתי], Ar. [אסטממיתיה], Ms. O. [איסתמתיה], some ed. [איסטמה], a word in a charm formula (apparently a fictitious denom. of [סמי]). Sabb. 67a.




הַסָּתָה f. (יָסַת or סוּת) seduction, enticement. Yoma 22b. דאוריה ודה the sin against Uriah and that of counting the people to which he was enticed (II Sam. XXIV, 1). Ḥull. 4b אין ה בדברים enticing (the verb הסית) never applies to verbal persuasion (but only to sensual influences). Sifré Deut. 87 אין ה אלא טעות enticing means leading astray; אין ה אלא גירוי it means instigation.

כָּשַׁף b.h.; cmp. חָשַׁב) [to whisper, v. Fl. to LevyTalm. Dict. II, pg. 459,] to think, devise, v. כּוּשְׁפָּא.

Pi. [כִּישֵּׁף] to charm, practice sorcery, (cmp. לָחַשׁ. Snh. 43a (suppressed in latter eds., v. יֵשׁוּ) על שכישף והסית וכ because he practiced sorcery and enticed &c. Ib. VII, 4 הַמְכַשֵּׁף he who practices witchcraft, expl. ib. 11 המכשף העושה מכשה וכ he who produces a real effect is guilty, not he who produces an optical delusion, v. אָחַז; a. fr. — v. [מְכַשֵּׁף], [מְכַשֵׁפָה].

כֶּשֶׁף m. pl. [כְּשָׁפִים] (b.h.; preced.) sorcery. Ḥull. 7b (ref. to Deut. IV, 35)  אין עוד מלבדו ואפי' כ there is none (no power) besides Him; no even sorcery (can do anything without the will of God); Snh. 67b (ed. ואפי' לדדו כ; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 2); Yal. Deut. 828. — Ber. 53a בנות ישראל מקטרות לכ daughters of Israel (in large places) are suspected of letting incense rise for sorcerous practices. Erub. 64b בדורות אחרנים...פרוצות בכ in these latter days when daughters of Israel are unrestrained in practicing sorcery. Snh. 67a. מצויות בכ habitually inclined to sorcery, v. [כַּשְׁפָּנִית].

Y. kidd. IV, end, 66c בעלת כ sorceness; a. fr.

כַּשָּׁף m. (b. h.; preced.) sorcerer.—Pl. [כַּשָׁפִים], [כַּשָּׁפִין]. Ḥull. 7b; Snh. 67b. למה כשפים (Ms. M. מכשפים) why are they called kašafim? מפני שמלחישין פמליא של מעלה because they lessen the power of divine agencies. Midr. Till. to  Ps. LXXX, end כשפין (ed. Bub.  כַּשְׁפָּנִין; oth. ed. מְכַשְּׁפִין); a.e. —v. [מְכַשֵּׁף].

*כּוּשְׁפָּא m. (כשף, cmp. חשב) embroidery, design. —pl.  כּוּשְׁפִּין. Targ. Ez. XXVII, 24 כ' דוורדא וכ Ar. (ed. Bg.  דיורדא, ed. ארזא) designs of roses (cedars) on purple cloaks (h. text רקמה).

כּוֹשְׁפָן m. (כָּשַׁף) a believer in sorcery or omens. Y. R. Hash. III, end, 59a.
